PROCESO de la PIÑA - 2018 Acrylic on canvas 92x65cm / 36"x25.5" After a trip to the northern part of Costa Rica, I saw red soil for the first time. I was struck by the vivid contrast between the deep red earth and the bright green of the pineapple fields. Since I’m not drawn to landscapes on their own, I felt the need to introduce a human element—so I decided to paint the entire process to capture the dialogue between the land and the people who shape it.

RÍO TÁRCOLES - 2015 - Acrylic on cardboard canvas 46x61cm / 18"x24" We had already experienced this tourist attraction—a boat tour along the Tarcoles River, in Costa Rica. At one point a man feeds the crocodiles while the rest of the journey is spent drifting past the riverbanks, observing an astonishing variety of birds gathered along the shore. I had many pictures I put together to create this painting. I also added my sisters and I, seated in the boat, quietly witnessing the scene unfold.
